BENEFITING: Teen Challenge International
ORGANIZER: THE IRONMAN FOUNDATION
EVENT: YOUR JOURNEY, YOUR CAUSE
Eight years ago, I started competing in the sport of Triathlon. On November 15th, 2015 I am going to attempt to finish the grueling 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and 26.2 mile run at Ironman Arizona. As I prepare for this extreme challenge I am reminded that there are many extreme challenges we face in life everyday. Fighting addiction is an extreme challenge that is close to my heart. As may be true with you, there are so many stories of close friends and relatives whose lives have been affected by addiction. We can make a difference! Instead of outcasting or snubbing people who are struggling with addiction, let's get them the help they really need! Teen Challenge is a ministry that I support and am asking you to participate with me in the Ironman Challenge as well as the challenge of living with addiction.
A few years ago I had the pleasure of meeting Catalin Baciu, the director of Teen Challenge Romania. JJ Ferrell gave me a tour of the facility outside of Bucharest and I was very touched the incredible work being done. I was able to tour a part of the facility that was under construction. A new wing that was going to open numerous opportunities for these young men that have chosen to stay and work towards finding freedom from their addiction. I wanted my first Ironman Distance race to have purpose! It won't be easy! In fact I have been told that Mile 18 is the "Line"! The place where your body starts telling you to quit! This is what will help get me to the finish line, knowing we are helping those that need help! I would cherish your partnership giving me purpose to complete Ironman Arizona on November 15th and helping those with addiction complete their race against their addiction.
