November 24, 2015: WOW! What a day! It's almost impossible to describe all the emotions I experienced on race day. Not everything went exactly perfect, but that's part of it. Thanks to so many people that helped make that day possible. Although the race is over, there's still time to make a donation. Please consider making a contribution that will help our local FCA chapter.
August 2015: After being challenged by a couple friends a little over 2 1/2 years ago to compete in local Sprint Triathlon, I now find myself less than 3 months away from attempting to complete my first full Ironman race. It has been a long, not always fun journey that has required several sacrifices not only from me, but also my family. They have supported me throughout this journey from day one and I know they will be right there when I cross the finish line in November.
During this entire process, I have often wondered how I could make this journey less about me and more using it to benefit a worthy cause. I've partnered with The Ironman Foundation's Your Journey, Your Cause program to help raise money for the Flint River FCA District. http://flintriverfca.org/.
FCA is an organizaiton that engages both athletes and coaches to grow in both their faith and sport. FCA's mission is to present to coaches and athletes, and all whom they influence, the challenge and adventure of receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, serving Him in their relationships and in the fellowship of the church. To do this, FCA focuses their ministry efforts in four areas:
1. Coaches - Coaches are the heart of FCA. Our vision is to see coaches transformed who then by their coaching bring transformation to the people of sports. We desire to see biblical coaches who are Christians who happen to coach, rather than just coaches who happen to be Christians. When coaches become followers of Jesus Christ, their character, their relationships and their approach to coaching will be authentic.
2. Campuses - The Campus Ministry is a certified ministry that is initiated and led by student-athletes, sponsored by coaches, supported by staff, established on junior high, high school or college campuses and meets on a regular basis.
3. Camps - An FCA Camp is a certified ministry event that uses the annual theme and scripture for athletes and coaches to develop athletic skills, create influential relationships and encounter Jesus Christ.
4. Community - The Community Ministry is the off-campus opportunities to reach coaches and athletes through the club and recreation sport environment.
The Flint River FCA District is the responsible for ministering in the areas above in the Middle GA region. Please consider making a donation that will go directly to help fund the day to day Flint River FCA ministry operations. I'll pledge to do my part by continuing to put in the miles necessary to reach my race day goals, hopefully you will consider making a donation to help reach my fundraising goal of $1000. Any donation will be greatly appreciated.
