BENEFITING: TRIPP FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Sep 07, 2014
My name is Ally Behrens and this is my family's story. In 2008, my mom reached her goal and became an Ironman. Six years later, she's ready for the challenge again.
A few things have changed in those 6 years. My mom has donated one of her kidneys to my brother. He's now 18, thriving and looking forward to college. He inspires me daily. His drive, ambition, and attitude continues to move me. Pre-transplant he was active in all sports. He wanted to continue his passion of all sports post transplant, and he found a way. Thanks to a connection with the Nebraska football team, we found EvoShield. A custom made device was created by EvoShield to protect his new kidney and allow him to continue playing sports and enjoy the quality of life he wanted to maintain.
We want to share this with the TRIPP Foundation that assists all kidney transplant children and their families at the University of Iowa. Let's give each and every transplant child their own shield so they can bike, play soccer, football, or volleyball and just be a kid.
Our goal is to raise $6,000 to give each kidney transplant at the University of Iowa this year their very own EvoShield. This is very special challenge for me and my family. Not only is my mom older and an organ short, but my brother and I will be training with her and waiting for her at the finish line to complete her second Ironman in the hopes of giving the kidney transplant children a chance to enjoy an active lifestyle like my brother has.
