BENEFITING: Parkinson's Foundation INC
ORGANIZER: Parkinson's Foundation INC
EVENT DATE: Oct 16, 2016
Parkinson’s disease dementia has stolen my mother from me and my family. My mom was a high school English teacher, a history buff, and an avid traveler. My family lived overseas for a few years and we used to joke about how much my mom came to visit. When she wasn’t with us, she used to call EVERY Sunday night at exactly 7 to stay in touch with us. I used to feel burdened by these relentless calls, but now that the calls are impossible, what I wouldn’t give for just one more call from her.
My mom has Parkinson’s with dementia and at first she only had resting tremors, but the symptoms quickly progressed into hallucinations, lack of independent mobility and the inability to communicate. I’ve been frustrated watching as this disease slowly takes her away from us and felt helpless to do anything about it. I finally found a way to contribute to the fight against Parkinson’s disease through my passion for triathlons. I’ll be racing with Team Hope at Ironman Arizona 70.3 to raise awareness and funds for Parkinson’s research and to get a step closer to finding a cure for this disease.
I would appreciate you helping me reach my fundraising goal of $3,000 before October 1, 2016.
