BENEFITING: BUILDING BRIDGES WORLDWIDE
EVENT DATE: May 31, 2014
This summer I am going to be participating in both the Ironman 70.3 Hawaii on May 31st and Ironman 70.3 Vineman on July 13th, and I would appreciate your support of a donation to Building Bridges Worldwide. Building Bridges is a not-for-profit organization committed to constructing schools, orphanages, clean water wells, medical clinics, and bridges in impoverished communities around the world.
Building Bridges Worldwide's members plan and fund ongoing projects, and are on hand for the ground breaking and first week of construction. Through its volunteers and donors, Building Bridges Worldwide seeks to create a network of individuals who wish to create opportunities for others who have almost nothing. It was founded by some of my close friends from college, and they have completed projects in Ghana, Bolivia, Nepal, New Orleans and Nicaragua.
In 2014, Building Bridges Worldwide has partnered with BeSomeoneNYC to construct a school in the Maasai community of Simanjiro, Tanzania. The new school building will be the home of the St. Namelok School and will feature an e-learning center that will enable students to access a wide range of educational content. The construction will commence this summer and Building Bridges is planning to take a group of volunteers to Tanzania to break ground on the school in August 2014.
Ironman 70.3 Hawaii consists of a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and 13.1 mile run, and is held on Kohala Coast, Hawaii. The bike course in particular is along the Queen Ka’ahumanu and Akoni Pule Highways towards Hawi, which essentially is the 2nd half of the full Ironman distance event in October for the Ironman World Championships.
Ironman 70.3 Vineman Triathlon also consists of a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and 13.1 mile run, and is held in Sonoma County, California. I raced this last year and it was a very exciting event.
