An IRONMAN 140.6 is an extreme triathlon featuring a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and a 26.2 mile run. Insane, right?!! Well, I have decided to merge my IRONMAN journey with the international children's charity Smile Train, which provides free surgery to underprivileged children suffering from cleft lip and/or cleft palate.
We all know how important dental care is to assure a lifetime with a happy smile! As a dental laboratory technician, I spend my career focused on helping people with their dental needs. This is why I have decided to partner with the Ironman Foundation and Smile Train to raise money for underprivileged children to obtain the surgery they need to correct their cleft palate or lip.
Sadly, cleft children are more susceptible to dental anomalies and have unique oral health needs. It is especially difficult for many families to get access to quality dental and orthodontic care services due to lack of local professionals. In many of these countries, clefts usually go untreated because families are too poor to afford the repair surgery that takes as little as 45 minutes and costs as little as $250 dollars.
I will be competing in the IRONMAN Arizona 140.6 Triathlon on November 19, 2017, to raise funds to help give these children this life-changing surgery.
Also, you can follow me through my training and on race day on Strava at https://www.strava.com/athletes/11572754 and help motivate me to get to the finish line!!!
Thank you for supporting my fundraiser with Smile Train-- together we can change the world one smile at a time!
