BENEFITING: American Cancer Society
ORGANIZER: THE IRONMAN FOUNDATION
On August 3, 2014 I will be taking on Ironman for the 4th time - this time on my home turf of Boulder, Colorado. For those of you not familiar with the race, the day includes 140.6 miles (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run) in 17 hours or less. For me, the journey starts long before I show up to the starting line and is dependent upon the support and love of my family and friends. Each race is a unique challenge of a lifetime.
While I am fortunate to be able to take on these challenges, many people (including friends and family) face their own challenges in the form of battling cancer. That is why I have decided to support the American Cancer Society. According to the National Cancer Institute at the National Institute of Health, nearly 850,000 people in 2013 were expected to be diagnosed with prostate, breast, colon/rectal, and lung cancer. This is in addition to the many other forms of cancer that afflict hundreds of thousands of people each year.
But the American Cancer Society is fighting on behalf of these individuals by providing funding for research, support for those currently dealing with cancer, and resources for detection, prevention and treatment. They need our help.
The mission is critical. I will do the physical and mental work to show up on race day trained, prepared, and ready to go. Please join with me and support the American Cancer Society as they stand with those who don't have the luxury of time to prepare for their challenge of a lifetime.
