13 HOURS FOR 13 NIGHTS
MY MISSION IS TO COMPLETE THE IRONMAN BOULDER IN LESS THAN 13 HOURS AND RAISE ENOUGH MONEY IN THE PROCESS TO FUND 13 NIGHTS OF OPERATIONS AT THE BOULDER SHELTER FOR THE HOMELESS.
Hello and welcome! My name is Stephen Milburn, and I have been working at the Boulder Shelter for the Homeless for the past 6 years in various capacities. I am currently the manager of two Shelter programs, the street outreach program , Boulder County Cares, and one of our housing programs, Boulder Transitional Housing. I have spent my entire life in Boulder and am passionate not only about this beautiful city with its endless trails and amazing biking, but also about the incredible people I have met through my work at the Boulder Shelter. This August 3rd, I will be combining these two passions as I participate in the first ever Boulder Ironman competition while raising money for the Boulder Shelter for the Homeless.
Each winter evening, the Boulder Shelter provides a warm, clean bed and two hot, nutrious meals for 160 residents. The Shelter estimates that $487 covers a substantial portion of the cost of food, utilities and supplies to safely shelter all those men and women for one night.
My goal is to raise enough money to fund 13 nights at the Shelter, while completing the Ironman in 13 hours. This will be a total of 6,331 dollars!
At the beginning of my training, I often felt it would be an impossible task to complete a full Ironman. After all, I ‘m a very regular guy. And 6,331 dollars is not pocket change! But I believe that amazing things happen with small offerings and genuine commitment. I see it in the people I work with every day, and I am inspired to make this commitment not only to the people who use the Shelter today, but to those who may someday need its services. Please consider partnering with me, one small offering at a time; you have the power to make available nights of safety, warmth and food for those who come to the Shelter’s door this winter.
*FYI- Ironman Foundation will first receive your donation then allocate it to Boulder Shelter for the Homeless. This will be reflected in submitting a donation and recorded on your billing statement.
