IRONMAN CDA: 140.6 Miles for D&K
Organized by: Amy Jo
EVENT DATE Jun 29, 2014
On June 29, 2014 my step-brother Kyle and I will compete in the world's most challenging endurance event, the IRONMAN triathlon, in Coeur d' Alene, ID. The race consists of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride, and a 26.2 mile run (yes a full marathon!) totaling 140.6 miles in one day (hence $1,406).
As we test our endurance and dedication on one of the most challenging days of our lives, we want to add to the race experience by making our race one for the greater good. Therefore, we’ll be racing in memory of my best friend, my mother, Darlene Ann Reuter, who unexpectedly passed away 7 years ago from a mitral valve prolapse of the heart. We’ve chosen to give all proceeds raised to little one-year-old Katelyn Larson and her family as they continue treatment for Katelyn’s recent heart transplant, due to Cardiomypopathy, a disease which causes the heart muscle to become enlarged.
Heart health is near and dear to our family and it would mean the world to us to see my mom’s memory benefit another dealing with a cardio abnormality. Help us honor my mom's life and enrich Katelyn's as we make our journey to become an IRONMAN.
Our initial fundraising goal is set for $1,406…$10 for every mile…but we won't stop there. Please sponsor a mile, or ten, if you can!
Find out more about Katelyn's story in this article and on her CaringBridge site. She's a fighter and an overcomer.
To all those who contribute, we thank you for your generosity and charity!
