BENEFITING: 4 Paws for Ability in honor of Malachi Carson
ORGANIZER: THE IRONMAN FOUNDATION
EVENT: Your Journey Your Cause 2017
Early last summer I was matched with Malachi as a run buddy through the I Run 4 Michael organization. The IR4 organization matches runners with people who have physical or developmental limitations. It's through this organization that relationships between runners and buddies are built and fostered through support and encouragement. As a runner and triathlete for Malachi, every mile that I swim, bike, and run is dedicated to him.
Malachi is an amazing, creative, and intelligent 9 year old boy who has been diagnosed with autism and an anxiety disorder. He loves science, numbers, technology, and animals, but autism and anxiety often make day to day life for Malachi challenging.
Currently, Malachi's family is raising money to provide him with a service dog through the 4 Paws for Ability non-profit organization. A service dog will help Malachi with his anxiety disorder by giving him greater confidence in certain situations. It will also provide companionship and teach responsiblity, interrupt negative behaviors, and assist in calming Malachi in times of increased anxiety and stress. As a teacher and Malachi's run buddy, I would love nothing more than to help make this happen for him and his family.
I'm currently training for Ironman Chattanooga and I want this race to be about more than just me dedicating the 140.6 miles to Malachi. I would like to help his family raise the money needed to aquire a service dog specifically trained to assist Malachi in his day to day life. In order to do this, I need your help and support. Service dogs come at a cost of $34,000 and families must fundraise $17,000 of the total for the organization to begin the selection and training of the dog. This is where you come in! Please consider supporting both me and Malachi in this Ironman journey by making a tax-deductible donation to this worthy cause through the Ironman Foundation. No donation amount is too small! Every dollar gets Malachi closer to having a friend who will be able to help him enjoy life the way all kids should!
