EVENT: Your Journey Your Cause 2017
I didn’t know what a triathlon was eight years ago - let alone participate in one. In fact, I was lucky to be able to run down the block and back! Now I’m preparing to race in my third Ironman. What an amazing journey it has been! I have competed in many varying distance triathlons since my couch potato days, but Ironman is the big one. An Ironman starts with a 2.4-mile open water swim, followed by a 112-mile bike ride, and ends with a 26.2-mile run. I’ll be competing in Ironman Maryland held in Cambridge Maryland on October 7, 2017 in the 60-64 age-group category.
Preparing for Ironman Maryland has been a monumental undertaking involving months of training and sacrifice, but it’s something I love to do! I thank the Lord every day for the physical ability to train and compete in triathlons.
This Ironman though I wanted to race for something bigger than myself, and I’m asking for your support with all the funds raised going to a very special cause. I teamed up with Ironman Foundation to support St. Jude. All money raised will go to the St. Jude Affiliate Clinic at Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, NC. This is a pediatric cancer clinic affiliate of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. They treat children with cancer and a wide range of blood disorders. Being a grandfather now to three beautiful little girls has shown me more than ever how wonderful children are, and to think of any child being diagnosed with cancer breaks my heart. Please help me raise funds for St. Jude to make my upcoming Ironman count for something bigger than just another race.
You can track my progress on the day of the race by visiting ironman.com and clicking on “Live Coverage” at the top of the page and select Ironman Maryland 2017. Select “Athlete Tracker” and search by my last name.
Thank you very much for your support!
