BENEFITING: Scott Rigsby Foundation
ORGANIZER: THE IRONMAN FOUNDATION
EVENT: Your Journey Your Cause 2016
In late October, I'll be taking on the grueling (but fun!) challenge of becoming an Ironman for the very first time: swimming 2.4 miles, followed by cycling 112 miles, followed by a full marathon, 26.2 miles of running. A total of 140.6 miles of pure zen-inducing bliss...or total mind and body destruction!
I would like to add some meaning and motivation to the long training and race ahead by raising funds for a noteworthy nonprofit with a great cause -- The Scott Rigsby Foundation. My goal is to raise $1406: ten dollars for every mile traversed.
Scott Rigsby is a truly remarkable man with a powerful story. After a devastating car accident eventually left him with both of his legs amputated, he struggled many years with bouts of depression, alcoholism, and prescription drug addiction.
After finding emotional, spiritual, and physical strength, Scott has since become the first double amputee in the world to finish an Olympic distance, half-Ironman distance, and full Ironman distance triathlon!
His foundation works to encourage and inspire disabled individuals, including wounded veterans, as well as able-bodied inviduals, to lead active, healthy lifestyles; set goals; and to cross their own personal finish lines, not letting any physical -- and more importantly, mental -- handicaps hold one back.
I would encourage anyone to read more about Scott and his foundation through his foundation's site, http://www.scottrigsbyfoundation.org/, or by watching some of his interviews and videos on YouTube.
Thank you in advance for your consideration and generosity! All donations are tax-deductible and can be made anonymous, if desired.
