After watching Ironman Texas for the past 2 years, I decided it was finally time for me to take the plunge and do 2015 Ironman Texas in my new backyard. I did not want this to be just another ordinary Ironman experience, I wnated to run for a cause! I thought long and hard and one Organization kept coming to mind, The Herren Project!
I was first introduced to this organization back in 2013 while I was an assistant coach for the First Flight Middle School Track and Field Team. After the team and coaches were introduced to the mission and purpose of GO Project Purple, an initiatve of The Herren Project, I quickly new this was a great cause and wanted to support it.
The people that know my family and myself well, will realize why The Herren Project hit the right spot when I first heard about it. I live by the goals that The Herren Project teaches. Below is the Mission statement for The Herren Project, and the puprose of the Ironman Foundation.
I have some great news to announce. With the help of Pam Rickard and The Herren Project Runs, I have secured a copy of Running Ransom Road, also the author Caleb Daniloff is willing to personally sign it to the winner.
What I would like to do is over the next 2 weeks collect donations towards my fundraising efforts for Ironman Texas. For every $1 donated that will get you 1 "ticket" into the random drawing. At the end of the two weeks, everybody that has donated will have a chance to win the book. Below is my link to my fundraising page and also a link to the authors page. If you have any questions comment below or private message me. Thanks for all of the support in helping me reach my goal of raising funds for The Herren Project while racing Ironman Texas.
Please share this around and help raise the awareness of substance abuse. Last day to donate will be March 8th(for the chance to win the book).
The mission of The Herren Project is to provide assistance in taking the first steps toward recovery and a life of sobriety, educational programs and resources to increase awareness on the signs of addiction and bring hope for a better tomorrow.
The Project Purple concept was developed when Chris spoke at a local high school in 2011 and the front row of students were wearing Purple shirts. After Chris shared his story, one of the purple shirts raised her hand and stood up to speak. As snickering and laughter could be heard throughout the auditorium, the student said “Thank you Mr. Herren for validating what we do. We are the sober students of this high school and each year we take a pledge to not use drugs or alcohol.” Chris was captured by the courage it took to not only stand up and share the symbolism of the purple shirts, but was inspired to make a difference amongst adolescents across the United States.
Through The IRONMAN® Foundation's Your Journey, Your CauseTM program, athletes will have the opportunity to identify a non-profit beneficiary as part of their journey to become an IRONMAN and race for a cause. The IRONMAN Foundation has established a fundraising program that will provide athletes with all of the tools necessary to enable fundraising efforts while supporting the mission of their organization. Athletes can choose any non-profit organization as the beneficiary of their fundraising efforts.
I am very proud to be starting my fundraising to help this great cause and my adventure towards my 2015 IRONMAN TEXAS FINISH!
I would also like to thank my sponsors that will be helping me reach my goal of IM TX 2015: Finish Strong Coaching, GU Energy, and Klean Athlete.
