BENEFITING: Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance (FARA)
ORGANIZER: THE IRONMAN FOUNDATION
EVENT: YOUR JOURNEY, YOUR CAUSE
Friedreich's Ataxia (FA) is a rare, genetic disease, which usually starts between age 5 and 15. In FA, the production of a protein is altered in cells throughout the body. This is thought to lead to impaired energy production, and eventually cell death. The brain, spine and muscles are mostly affected, and symptoms include weakness, loss of coordination, vision, hearing and speech impairments.
FA is a progressive disorder. There is currently no treatment or cure.
We can help change this!
I am racing for FARA and Ride Ataxia. Ride Ataxia was started by Kyle Bryant in 2007. Kyle is an incredible inspiration, who has been riding thousands of miles across the country with his team and friends to support research on FA.
On September 13, I will be riding too (and swimming, and running a bit), to raise awarness and funds to find treatments and a cure for Friedreich's Ataxia.
