William A Lizcano - A great Coach, and a better Friend at Riptide CrossFit needs our help. He dedicates every day to his athletes and friends, and now we need to dedicate a little effort back!
On Saturday, June 7th our beloved Coach served as one of our main judges at the Riptide CrossFit Throwdown 2014.1 Competition. At the end of the competition the Coaches were performing the workout for fun, and William suffered a severe injury - he completely severed his Achiles Tendon.
As a CrossFit Coach, William works as a contractor, meaning, he gets no benefits such as health insurance or accidental coverage. Riptide CrossFit has made it a point to help him non-the-less as a company, however, in the spirit of community we believe we can all come together to make this an effortless recovery. William shouldn't be worried about money in such a time of distress.
The severity of his injury calls for a surgery within 12 days of the date of injury. William has flown home to Colombia to undergo the procedure, however, he needs our help raising the funds. The surgery is much less expensive there, rounding about $3500, plus a possible stay at the hospital and subsequent therapy make the estimated medical costs go upwards of $5000.
Having the great community we do at Riptide, with over 150 members and many more friends, we expect the goal of raising $5000 for William a manageable task. We will be running several events in hopes of raising money for this cause, and here is the first one.
Saturday, June 28th at 10:00AM we will be running a 5k for William around the Las Olas Area in Fort Lauderdale. Make your friends aware of this event and bring them to participate.
We will have two teams - Rx and Scaled. Rx will be running the 5k for the best time possible. The Scaled will be walking the entire way in support of William and his Recovery. Bring your friends and help us raise the money for his surgery!
