Irse hacia el norte (Going Northbound) is a theater investigation project about immigration. Six legal travelers from different countries of origin will share a route with illegal immigrants. There will be a profound exchange with the people and the real migrant experience.
Four Theater Actors, a Social Worker and a Cook will start their journey from the west of Guatemala, traveling through Mexico and the US. Stopping at migrant shelters, spending time with migrants and giving theater workshops. As the play “Irse” is being performed it will also be transforming itself with every travel experience. At the end of our journey, we will share this artistic investigation based on the real experience with the audience of New Orleans. After this the play will be toured through Guatemala and in the future we plan to go to the Netherlands.
The project pretends to give more attention to the phenomenon of immigration, portraying different sides of this social problem focusing on the human beings. Also, the project is a tribute to the people that voluntarily give their time and do everything possible to help the migrants passing through their cities.
