My moderately successful training for this marathon has been nothing short of a miracle. Honestly, typing these words into my fundraising profile terrifies me. I am that much closer to March 15th, game day! My marathon is paid for, my longest training run completed, my t-shirt size has been noted so I can rep Child S.H.A.R.E. as I run (or hobble) along the course...no turning back now, this is really happening!
Uttering my desire to conquer this impossible feat back in October was met with quizzical looks and words of caution...questions from my loved ones that almost overcame me: 'Are humans bodies meant to run 26.2 miles in a row? How are your knees going to withstand such abuse? Don't you like, love Netflix?' Yes, yes I do love Netflix.
I hope it sounds more honest then self-deprecating when I say: My ability to run this marathon is not pretty or heroic. Marathon training is NOT fun and the people closest to me have endured a lot of whining from yours truly (shoutout to Luke! You rock!). But the seemingly impossible accomplishments of normal human beings have the greatest impact, yes?
Thousands of invisible faces in Southern California are waiting to be seen and loved. The MONSTROSITY of what we are up against stuns me...the system put in place to keep our foster children safe is so incredibly broken. Conquering such a broken system seems to be a task only fit for the heroes, the saints, the people with PHD's (anyone other than us)...what I'm learning is that this is the biggest lie in the world. WE...you and I...are the people who will change the world. We have a responsibility to take care of these children and a PERFECT first step is to support Child S.H.A.R.E. in our world-changing endeavors!
For 30 years, Child S.H.A.R.E. has remained committed to finding homes for abused and at-risk foster children. Our programs educate, recruit and support parents so these kids will have the core element they need for success ... a family. With over 56,000 children in the foster care system in California, there is an overwhelming need for homes and permanent family solutions.
Each dollar raised will help to transform the lives of at-risk children and provide essential support to their families. Please give generously!
