BENEFITING: TEAM HEART INCORPORATED
EVENT DATE: May 25, 2014
I am running the Vermont City Marathon this year in honor of individuals suffering from Rheumatic Heart Disease in Rwanda.
I just returned from the 2014 volunteer trip to Rwanda with TeamHeart. We provided surgery and care for 16 patients with Rheumatic Heart Disease and I was able to see the debilitating effects Rheumatic Heart Disease has on these individuals and their families.
Rheumatic Heart Disease is acquired in childhood, occurring when infections damage the heart's valves which cause the heart to pump blood inefficiently, ultimately leading to death in children and young adults. Rheumatic Heart Disease is common in Rwanda and is PREVENTABLE. Rheumatic Heart Disease is almost non-existent in developed countries like the United States.
Please consider donating to this cause. 100% of the proceeds go directly to TeamHeart to help save lives by covering the cost of medical supplies, care, and resources needed to provide heart surgery and follow-up care to these individuals.
