BENEFITING: Anxiety and Depression Association of America
Last year I raised over $2000 for Parkinson's research and ran the Chicago marathon. This year, I am running it again, and doing it for everyone I know and love who struggle with clinical depression and anxiety.
I want to raise awareness about these disorders and encourage a broader acceptance of them as real and legitimate conditions. I want to reduce the stigma that surrounds them. I want to encourage others to be kind and compassionate with their loved ones who struggle depression and anxiety.
I Run this Mind is both a play on words and a true "mile post" for me. It's a mantra I repeat over and over again. I want it to be a mile post for others as well. I Run this Mind is about taking ownership of depression and taking control of your mental health and healing. It's about owning your mind and not letting it own you. It's about openly acknolwedging struggles with mental health, no matter how frightening it may seem. Running helps me achieve this goal, and I want to help others achieve it as well.
Follow me on my second marathon journey as I log miles, long runs, and post-run calorie explosions. You can find me on Twitter @mindfulacademic or Instagram @themindfulacademic for these updates and useful information as I raise awareness with each mile ran. If you're sharing your own photos and updates about my running, or passing this fundraiser along to others, you can use my hashtags #irunthismind and #bekindunwind. Your encouragement, "likes," and donations give me the motivation to keep running.
I will be running for the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, an organization that promotes public awareness, reduces the stigma around anxiety and depression, and supports the advancement of scientific knowledge about the causes and treatment of these disorders.
