Like many students at Daraja Academy, Alice has not lead the easiest of lives. She was raised by her parents in the slums, and the money they made was used to pay the rent. The little there was left was used to buy food, but because there were so many children Alice and her siblings often went hungry. Despite this Alice attained strong marks on her 8th grade exams. When Alice was accepted into Daraja Academy, she and her family were thrilled.
"Daraja was my rescue. If I were not at Daraja right now, I would be employed as a house girl to help my parents raise money to help my brothers and sisters finish primary school." Alice is the first of her sibling to go to secondary school.
