In December of 2015, my mother, Dawn Sosnoski, was diagnosed with stage 3c Ovarian Cancer. Her only symptom was some moderate abdominal pain. Her tumor had spread from her ovaries to her omentum, part of her bowels, and her abdominal wall. She started treatment with chemotherapy to shrink the tumor around sensitive areas before surgery. A couple weeks after her first chemo treatment, my dad unexpectedly passed away. This diagnosis and losing my dad completely rocked our family. As she grieved the loss of my dad and pressed on through her treatments, my mom displayed the most intense courage, bravery, and faith I have ever seen. After three chemo treatments, her amazing surgeon was able to remove every trace of the tumor. She received 3 more chemotherapy treatments and was deemed cancer free last summer!
This spring, the cancer returned. A small mass was found in her spleen. She had her spleen removed and is currently receiving chemotherapy again. She's doing well, and continuing to display that intense courage, bravery, and faith that I admire.
I wanted to start this fundraiser because before my mom's diagnosis, I had no idea that there is no early treatment screening for Ovarian Cancer. The symptoms are very subtle and are easy to misdiagnose. I'm starting this campaign to raise awareness of these facts and to provide some funds for Cancer Wellness Connections, a group that brightened my mom's day during several of her chemotherapy treatments--from providing food from outside the hospital, to giving my mom a manicure, to giving her a massage to help her restless legs. I would love for all women in this area to obtain those benefits while undergoing chemo treatment!
More than donations, we ask for your prayers! Pray that after my mom kicks cancer's butt for the second time, that this nasty disease GIVES UP because my mom is just TOO STRONG!
Whether you choose to join our team, donate, or pray, we are so grateful for your support!
