I am so excited to run the 2016 Boston Marathon as my first marathon .... as Tufts Health Plan's representative to raise money for The Dimock Center. This is a dream come true and a personal way for me to give-back to the MA healthcare system. A year after my second child was born, I faced a serious health crisis and throughout the ordeal (PCP and Specialty doctor visits, multiple tests, waiting for test results, etc.), I was always thankful that I had full access to the best doctors, hospitals and healthcare system in this country. I prayed for people in the same situation as me, who did not have the same access to get treated. That is the role that organizations like The Dimock Center play.
Dimock has a distinguished history of treating those without ready access to health and human services. In the late 1800s, Dimock was one of few training centers for women physicians/nurses and graduated the nation’s first African American nurse. Today, Dimock is an independent, federally qualified community health center, serving the neighborhoods around Roxbury, Massachusetts. Dimock is a model of integrated family centered care, providing high quality, low cost, accessible, and equitable comprehensive care to the community. Caring for some of Boston’s hardest-to-serve populations, where the minority population exceeds 70 percent, Dimock employs a model of care designed specifically for urban families, where services are fully accessible and holistic. As the largest employer in Roxbury, Dimock maintains a significant economic impact on the surrounding communities that is serves.
