Isla's 1st Birthday for the NICU of Fabella
Organized by: Miriam Ticsay
EVENT DATE May 31, 2015
Isla was born by emergency C-section weighing only 2lbs and 9 ozs at just 29 weeks gestation on May 19, 2014 (11 weeks premature). We were told there was no certainty of her health nor her survivial. No one could predict how she would fare being outside of the womb so early.
Now, Isla is celebrating her 1st birthday this month and she is healthy, happy, and thriving. During our days in the NICU, we received tremendous support from our family, friends, and colleagues. Now, to mark her 1st birthday, we would like to help other preemie babies and families that are still in the NICU.
So for the entire month of May 2015, in lieu of gifts for Isla's first birthday, we would like to celebrate her birth month by raising $1,000 for the NICU of Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital, a public maternal and newborn hospital located in Santa Cruz, Manila in the Philippines where the daily average number of babies that are taken care of in the NICU is 60!
Being a government funded hospital and having to take care of so many babies, they are frequently low or lack in the daily basic necessities that are crucial in taking care of the delicate patients in the NICU. Their simple requests range from paper towels (frequent hand washing is crucial in taking care of preemie babies), antibacterial soap, hand sanitizers, and diapers.
All proceeds received from this fundraiser will be donated directly to Fabella in coordination with Dra. Melissa Juico : Chair of the Department of Neonatology.
