iSlay Girl's Night Out Empowerment Event
Organized by: Ashly George
Hi, I'm Ashly, a professional intern at Rahway Academy in NJ. I am creating this fundraiser to raise money to bring 100 7th and 8th grade girls together for a "Girl's Night Out" event. This event, specifically targeted at female students, will create a sense of empowerment and unity among students. The idea for "Girl's Night Out" stems from the service project I manage involving eighth grade students (iSlay: Strong Ladies Achieve Young), and would take place May 2016. The purpose of this event is to counteract the rise of fighting, negativity, and low self esteem among our students through authentic conversations, fun exercise, cooperative team building activities in a safe and positive environment.
The money raised will be used to cover the cost of dinner, decorations, and materials needed to host 100 students.
This initiative is so important because these students, like many other teen girls, experience so much pressure from their peers, media, school, and themselves. This pressure creates self doubt and harbors low self-esteem. Events like iSlay and "Girls Night Out" can combat those negative feelings by providing students with conflict resolution techniques, relationship building skills, and the importance of self empowerment affirmations. Any donation amount is greatly appreciated; anything to help lower the costs that students would have to pay to enjoy the night!
