Camp is a place not only where kids can meet friends and have summer fun, but for many kids, camp is a safe place where they can be themselves and let their lights shine. For me camp is home. It is a constant in my life where many things have changed. I began my years at Camp Ernst in the summer of 2013. I started on E-team where I worked at the ropes course. I was nervous to go because everyone seemed to already have friends, but once I arrived I felt right at home. The stories I hear from my friends who have been going to camp their whole lives always make me wonder what it would have been like to be a camper. I love being a counselor at Camp Ernst and helping kids realize the magic of camp and helping them find their home in camp as well. I may not have ever been a camper, but I know that the kids who are come out of camp more themselves than they have ever been. Unfortunately, many kids cannot afford to come to camp and experience all of its wonders, and that is where you come in. YMCA Camp Ernst has a Camper Scholarship Program and every year we help children from families struggling with financial issues to come to camp. Every child should have a summer camp experience at least once, to not only have fun, but to learn more about themselves and others. I believe camp is the perfect place for a child to grow and become who they want to be and with your donations you can help a child achieve just that. I would love for every child in the world to be able to experience the love and support I do from my family at Camp Ernst, and this may just be the first step. Camp is my home, and I would love if you could help to make it another child's home. A little can go a long way and "it only takes a spark, to get a fire going."
