I have always been deeply inspired by a marathoner’s ability to fully immerse themselves in a capstone of their own, while simultaneously devoting themselves to a greater cause. After completing the Chicago Marathon in 2013, I was proud to consider myself one of those individuals. This was evidenced by accomplishing a challenge that took me far beyond my comfort zone, and raised money for a cause that was near and dear to my heart- Lolly’s Locks. Upon completion, my body was physically exhausted but my mind was determined to serve a higher purpose again in the future. Recently, I was inducted as a board member for an organization called Chicago Children’s Charities (CCC) and as I became more involved, the opportunity to run my next marathon in support of this organization’s ideals blossomed. This was when I signed up for the Orange County Marathon - May 1, 2016. Despite the trials and tribulations incurred while reaching my personal goal in training for and running this upcoming Marathon, they seemed miniscule when kept in the perspective of the challenges that at-risk, inner-city, and medically compromised children encounter on a daily basis. It was this mindset that gave me the steadfast will to not only complete the running portion of the marathon, but to also work relentlessly in giving back to my community. I will be running on behalf of CCC, a not-for-profit volunteer organization that exists to raise money through fundraising activities for the betterment of children in the Chicagoland area. CCC is currently supporting six, non-federally funded, charities in an effort to maintain their current role in the community and boost their potential to flourish. Their philanthropy ranges from enhancing afterschool programming, to building a thriving fine arts community, to improving the lives of children with threatening medical conditions. With your contributions, CCC will be able to positively impact more organizations, therefore changing the lives of more children. It is an absolute honor to be involved in such a beneficial cause and my efforts will be maximized with your help. I really appreciate your contributions.
