The Challenge
Only 16 percent of American high school seniors are proficient in mathematics and interested in a STEM career
Even among those who do go on to pursue a college major in the STEM fields, only about half choose to work in a related career.
The United States is falling behind internationally, ranking 25th in mathematics and 17th in science among industrialized nations. In our competitive global economy, we are losing critical ground

The Charge
Over the next ten (10) years colleges and universities are tasked with graduating 1 million students with STEM majors. But this is only attainable if African-Americans, Hispanics and other underrepresented groups in the STEM fields—including women, people with disabilities, and first-generation Americans participate
With that charge, ITSMF has partnered with agencies such as BDPA, Black Girls Code, and Million Women Mentors to support the cultivation of future STEM professionals which ultimately impacts our mission by filling the pipeline with African-American Technology professionals

The Solution
Once these technology professionals have began their careers additional support will be necessary to sustain their stance and progression within their organizations as there is an art to mentoring, developing and retaining those professionals of color
Since its inception in 1996, ITSMF has been dedicated to increasing the representation of diverse talent at senior-levels within the Technology industry through leadership development programs, formal mentoring, executive coaching, strategic partnerships and key alliances
