BENEFITING: Epilepsy Foundation of Metropolitan New York
Hello! My name is Marissa and I am 27 years old. I have had epilepsy since I was 17. However, I am one of the extremely lucky ones! My epilepsy didn't come about till my late teenage years when my brain was already formed and the chances of it being affected were, and still are, small. For the most past, my epilepsy is controlled and my seizures were always very infrequent; occurring only a few times per year & most were only small auras. I could count the number of grand mal seizures using only my hands. Still, things like trying to find the right medicine, needing to rely on other people, and having seizures out in public places like school and work has been rough and embarrassing. But, I only have a tiny taste of what people who have uncontrolled epilepsy have; dealing with daily seizures, multiple times a day. Young children whose brain function has been forever affected; adults who can't have children because they can't be seizure-free long enough to carry a child; everyone in between who can't have a "normal" life because their seizures happen too frequently to hold down a job or relationship. This fundraiser is for you! I pray for you all and hope one day you can be seizure free! NEVER GIVE UP!!
