Ivan's Mission Trip To Costa Rica
Organized by: ivan briceno
I’m writing to you in hope that you’ll listen, understand, and consider granting me your help. I am currently a student in Mrs. Noriega’s Honors Biology class. If you’re unaware, Mrs. Noriega will be hosting an educational trip to Costa Rica and it would be an incredible experience for me. Not only is this a once in a lifetime opportunity, education wise, but it will also grant me the chance to become more independent as I explore a new terrain. All of this will be possible if I could have your help. Coming from a Hispanic family, money is very scarce. My parents immigrated into the United States to give my siblings and I a better opportunity at having a chance in life. I’m taking full of advantage of any opportunity provided to further my educational ambitions. My parents never really had what you call a wealthy lifestyle or even an education. As children, they began to work because it was the only way to help their family have a meal. Their shoes were made out of carton, and their clothing made out of old furniture material. In Mexico, secondary education still requires a fee. Well, my parents and most of my family only made it to sixth grade because they didn’t have money. Up to this day, my mom and dad confuse their letters, numbers, and can’t solve any basic math. As the youngest of three, all the pressure is on me to attend a university because my sister couldn’t attend since she was not a citizen at the time of her high school graduation. My brother was severely stabbed at the age of seventeen and only had ten credits left to graduate, but sadly he could not. That is why in my family I’m expected to break the chain, and be the one to support my family. Not only that, I want to be able to give my family a better lifestyle than the one they have now. I don’t want to have to send my parents away into a senior citizen home when they approach the time where they can’t fend for themselves. I would love to hire a personal home-care nurse, and give my parents all the comfort in the world. This trip to Costa Rica well not only make it a memorable experience, but it will also provide me with three college credits. Academically, I believe that I perform very well. My current GPA is a 4.2 and I plan to graduate with a 4.5, and hopefully become valedictorian. I am also involved in many extracurricular activities such as, Concert/Marching Band at Montebello High School, Jazz Band, working as sound crew, student tutoring, Hispano/Chicano Club, and the school drama. In conclusion, it would be so wonderful if you could help me with as much financial contribution as possible.
