Hi Everyone,

As some of you know, Mila's cochlear implants were activated two days ago, meaning she can now hear! We made a little video so you can see how she reacts to sound for the first time.

This will be the last email I send about Mila, but I thought you might enjoy it. Cheers!

Thanks again for your support and prayers!

All,

I wanted to send you all one last thank you for your generous donations and give you a quick update on how things went.

Mila's cochlear implant surgery went perfectly on Friday. She is now at home recovering very well. Once she heals, she will have the devices activated on November 20th. That will be the first day she hears Mom & Dad's voice! Very exciting!

The Mila Marathon raised a total of $21,173!!! Thats more than any other runner for the Clarke School and one of the largest donations they've received from a race like this. You guys rock!

I completed the long 26.2 miles in 3 hours and 58 minutes, and had a blast doing it! The last 8 miles were brutal, but I thought of Mila and all you to push me through. Although my time isn't going to put me in the record books, I'm happy I broke my goal of 4 hours. If my aches and limping go away, next year I'll shoot for 3:30...

Thanks again for all your support and encouragement. You are the best.

With love and appreciation,

Hi again, With one week to …
Hi again,

With one week to go before the Mila Marathon in New York, I wanted to give you a quick update.

First off, I’d like to thank all of you for your very generous donations for Mila’s new school, the Clarke School. Your support has been hugely motivating in my training this year! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

Secondly, we have great news that Mila is a perfect candidate to receive cochlear implant surgery, and will be operated on November 1st (two days before the marathon!). This means that if everything goes according to plan, she will be hearing by the end of November, will be in mainstream kindergarten, and speaking like any other kid by time she’s 3-4 years old. We are so grateful for the amazing medical teams at NYU Hospital, Weil-Cornell Medical Center, Clarke School, Center for Hearing and Communication, NY State’s Early Intervention program and Cochlear’s medical implant technology. Without them, Mila might otherwise live a life of silence.

Lastly (and least importantly), my training has been a little choppy. This season I’ve suffered from nearly every running injury in the book (plantar fasciitis, bone contusions, shin splints, strained Achilles tendon, and bruised toes). But that’s not gonna stop me. I will complete this marathon, even if it means I have to limp across the finish line.

Anyway, wish me luck next Sunday!

With appreciation,

Stephen Albarran

Dear Friends and Family,

On behalf of Mila and Anya, thank you so much for your generous donations, love and support. It means so much to have people like you in our lives, and it will mean the world to the children of Clarke School.

We blew past our $5,000 goal and are now at just over $14,000! That is a ton of money!!! The whole staff at Clarke School is thrilled and so are we! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Now for the hard part... The running.
