The city of Muskegon Heights has a violent crime rate that falls just below that of Detroit, but is a city a fraction of the size. The Ivory B. Morris, Jr. Community Center will create a communal safe place for the children and adults of Muskegon Heights, to learn, exercise an socialize. The Community Center will have Muskegon Heights Police on site. The Community Center will house rental office space for community organizations, as well as a gymnasium, a commerical kitchen and classrooms for a variety of activities. Programs on health, nutrition, cooking, music, sewing and exercise will be available, in addition to private tutoring for students and apprentiship programs in auto repair, electrical and construction. The Ivory B. Morris, Jr. Community Center will be housed in the former Glendale Elementary School located at 3001 Jefferson Street in Muskegon Heights, MI.
