The Rocky Mountain Wing is recovering from a 2-year, $300,000 repair and restoration of our TBM Avenger. Our gallant little J3 Cub Grasshopper worked hard over those two years, traveling to air shows, giving rides, and trying to cover for its missing big brother.
Flying in and out of western Colorado, it spends most of its time climbing hard. Once it reaches a safe altitude (10,000-11,000 feet), it has to work hard to streak along at 55 mph. And at this blistering pace, it has to work hard for a long time to get anywhere.
The pretty yellow bird worked so hard for so long, that it finally wore its tiny 65 hp engine out. Alas, the little Cubby is grounded until we can raise at least $2,000 for a major overhaul. An upgrade to an 85 hp engine would be better, but significantly more expensive - about $10,000. Or perhaps a Christmas Miracle? Some generous soul may wish to donate a serviceable Continental C-65, C75, or C85 engine?
The Rocky Mountain Wing will be grateful for whatever Santa brings!
