Jaago - a book about Gay Men Marriage Ban in India
Organized by: Divyanshu Gupta
**What is this book about?
"Jaago" means "to awake" in Hindi , is a novel covering the stories of gay couples in India. The idea behind Jaago is very simple. LGBT people in India faces danger of being imprisoned up to a life time because of their sexual orientation. Homosexual intercourse is a criminal offence in India . So you can totally understand it now that how important it is to bring the change in thinking of a common man in India and so well to the eyes of Law .This could only be done when everyone opens up their mind to the voice of our community. For the past Seven months I've been traveling to different cities across the country and interviewing as many gay singles and couples as I can. So far, I've interviewed 15 gay men in three of the metro cities of India. I then ask each man to write down his story.
My aim is to create a podium to challenge stereotypes, and a resource and sense of community for others who may not be as openly gay. I think it's great when a celebrity , an actor or a sportsperson comes out.
**Why should you support this book?
I’m delighted to see the recent progress made in several countries regarding gay marriage.Well, I make no distinction between marriage and civil partnerships, to me the name is not important. What matters is the progress towards equal rights and acceptance.
Equality ,being loved ,socially accepted ,having a stable life , in short 'being who we are' are the legal rights of each and every citizen on mother earth.
Living under the scar of a social taboo of a country is indefinite punishment even more than a life time imprisonment. The awakening is greatly needed here regarding the issue of gay marriages ban and the need to let go to be happily living and being socially active which is the default state of every citizen.
To support Jaago is to take a step towards creating awareness and shaping public opinion for a stronger legal framework in India that will protect the rights of gay men .
**Why I need your support ?
For the past seven months I've financed this project entirely on my own, and I'm here on Crowdrise to ask for your help in raising $3,000 to continue this body of work. This would allow me and our group 3 man and one cat to devote one hundred percent of our time and energy into this project for a period of six months, and continue to take the project to at least 7 more metro cities starting in August of 2014.
Our total Budget is like around $6,000 , but some of it around a whole sum of $3,000 is arranged from my loved parents ,college scholarship plus internship stipend and what i need from community is $3000.
Those who are not able to fund now , please share the buzz about Jaago to your family and friends and ask them for the same.

A PIL was filed in to challenge IPC section 377 in delhi high court in december 2002 and in december 2013 ,on appeal , SC of India announces that they would not allow gay marriage or any kind of homo acts in India and will not support for the same and upheld the imprisonment for the person found involved in any such kind of activities .
My point is its already has been too late for the fare part to be awakened . So lets support and make it a voice .
