A little over a month ago I was diagnosed with colon cancer. I am extremely lucky to have great support from my friends and family and, just as importantly, great health insurance from my job. I'm definitely going to win this fight, but it will be marathon, not a sprint.
However; this short run/walk to generate money for colon cancer research is not a marathon, and is actually a sprint for some of you. I hope that you can make it to the event (it is filling up quickly), but if not, please donate to support research so that fewer people have to deal with this terrible disease.
In the year 2000, President Clinton declared March National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.Good man. I'd like to invite you to join us in running, walking, and/or run/walking at the New York Colon Cancer Challenge in Central Park on April 7, 2013 because 1. you love Jabari, 2. you hate cancer and/or 3. you enjoy running/walking.
1. a 1.7 mile walk at 9am - http://www.nyrr.org/races-and-events/2013/new-york-colon-cancer-challenge-walk
2. a 4 mile run at 9am - http://www.nyrr.org/races-and-events/2013/new-york-colon-cancer-challenge-4m
(There is also a 15K run but it starts at 10am.)
Something for everyone. Register at the links above if this interests you. Jabari will be doing the 1.7 mile run and I will be doing the 4 mile run. We will come together for a Team Jabari group hug at the end and possibly gather for food/festivities in our athletic wear. More details to follow. Let me know if you're interested in joining us. And register soon. Prices will go up and races will sell out.
Thank you to all who have already been giving us virtual and real Team Jabari group hugs thus far. Many more to come.
