My Mitzvah Project: The Innocence Project
My torah portion, Shoftim, talks about law and justice in the Jewish society, so for my mitzvah project, I have decided to donate to the Innocence Project, which is trying to help wrongfully convicted people get released from prison.
It’s difficult to believe that our criminal justice system could make mistakes, especially with today’s advanced technology. However, these inevitable mistakes still take place and it’s difficult to stop them from happening. Despite that this technology has been developing for years, the DNA testing technology still remains very recent. Every year, the popular Innocence Project gets thousands of requests for help from prisoners trying to prove their innocence and is assessing 6,000 to 8,000 possible cases at any moment. There are currently about 300 cases that the project is working on.
I am asking you to donate to support the Innocence Project. Thank you!
