BENEFITING: POWAY VALLEY THERAPEUTIC RIDING CENTER
PoVa Therapeutic Riding Center (www.povatrc.org), a non-profit organization located in Poway, offers therapeutic horseback riding to children and adults with special needs. Therapeutic riding strengthens the bodies, minds, and spirits of individuals with disabilities. The life skills learned and physical and cognitive improvements experienced help with many aspects of our students’ lives. Whether the disability is acquired or congenital, most anyone of any age (no matter if they are 2 or 82) can ride and experience life-changing benefits. Abraxas Transition Program (www.abraxas.org), a non-profit organization located in Poway. Since 1986, the Transition Program in the Poway Unified School District has operated as a community-based program designed to enhance and promote greater independence of practical life skills for young adults with developmental disabilities. The Transition Program provides training for individuals between the ages of 18-22 across Education/Training, Community, Vocational, and Independent Living domains. PUSDSEF (https://www.powayusd.com/pusdahs/transition-program/index.html) is a non profit organization with a mission to enhance the educational experiences and success of students served by the Poway Unified School District. The foundation directly supports Poway Unified School District through a Mini Grant Program. Educators, Staff and Specialist apply for mini grants throughout the school year. The grants fund curriculum, technology, sensory tools, and items needed to enhance the educational experiences for our children and young adults served by the Special Education Department. As a 100% volunteer run organization, all donations are put directly back into our schools and classrooms. The PUSD Special Education Foundation serves ALL 37 campuses within the district.
