Jacklyn Brickman is a visual artist whose work aims to explore the effects of competitive survivorship within natural and cultural ecosystems and the dynamic interrelationship between people and their habitats. Brickman’s work spans installation, sculpture, drawing and video with special interest in collaboration and social engagement. Born in Mt. Clemens, a suburb north of Detroit, MI USA (1981). Graduated with honors from the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, MI with a BFA in Fine Arts and a Minor in Photography (2005). Studied at Instituto Allende, San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico during a semester abroad followed by a month of traveling via bus and hammock through southern Mexico (2003). Awarded a Fellowship and Residency at Jentel Foundation in Banner, Wyoming (2007). Co-curated exhibitions and shared studio space at Butter Projects in Royal Oak MI (2010-2013). Brickman has entertained a number of odd jobs, all of which have colored her professional artmaking; notably becoming a Licensed Realtor (2007), Volunteer Frog and Toad Surveyor (2010), Certified Babywearing Educator (2013-16), Certified Bra Fitter (2013-16) and most markedly, a Mother (2008-ongoing). She has exhibited domestically, in Canada and Slovenia.
