Ainsley's Angels is super excitied to play a small part in making this a reality!
Who is Jacob?
We would like to introduce you to our son, Jacob. He was born with FG syndrome, a rare genetic condition that causes physical disabilities. Jacob has had many surgeries on his back and ankles. These ailments, plus the weakened muscles from his torso to his feet, make walking a difficult task for Jacob. We started running with Jacob in 2015 and Jacob pulled his dad to their first 5k finish together later that summer. Jacob was so excited the entire race morning except when it ended so quickly. Jacob and his dad started doing half marathons in 2016. They have completed four half marathons together around the Indianapolis area. Jacob loves running with the crowds and hearing the encouragement from spectators and other runners. He has even encouraged other runners, especially when he gets to mile 12.
Running with his dad has allowed Jacob to enjoy the sport with his dad and his siblings. His mom is his biggest fan and Jacob looks forward to seeing her on the course at each race. This year, we came to the realization that Jacob’s chair is not suitable for running and may even be dangerous. The last race he did was hilly and without brakes on his wheelchair, Jacob was reaching dangerous speeds. Jacob’s chair was not designed to be a running chair and we are afraid of it tipping and causing injury to Jacob.
Obtaining this new chair (or chariot as Ainsley’s Angels calls them) would mean the world to Jacob and to his family. Jacob wishes to continue racing half marathons. Also, he has started asking to run a triathlon. This new chariot not only would mean safety for Jacob during his runs but it can connect to a bike so that he can compete in triathlons. Jacob watched two inclusion athletes and their partners complete Ironman Boulder this summer and he couldn’t be more excited to attempt his first triathlon. We love the mission of Ainsley’s Angels to use inclusion athletics to bring awareness to the special needs community. We thank Ainsley’s Angels for helping us with our fundraising for Jacob’s chariot! If you feel led to donate, please know that your gift will be a huge blessing to Jacob and his family! Please help Jacob represent the mission of inclusion for all people in the Indianapolis area!
