BENEFITING: Kicks 4 Kids Foundation
My name is Jacob Coburn. I am a 13 year old boy who is having his Bar Mitzvah on October 1, 2016. An important part of becoming a Bar Mitzvah is developing the responsibilities of a community-minded adult, one who gives back to others who are less fortunate.
Over the last couple of years, I've developed a passion for learning about and collecting sneakers. With my Bar Mitzvah drawing near, having collected so many shoes has made me realize how fortunate I am to be able to buy and wear new, nice shoes. What I've also realized is that there are children my age who's families can't even afford one pair of shoes. As a result, I've decided to come up with a Mitzvah project to help kids in need who can not afford shoes. My idea is to raise money to buy new shoes and donate them to different groups of children in need. The reason I have decided to donate new shoes is because I believe there is a thrill in putting on a new pair of shoes, it makes you feel happy and confident, and self-confidence is something that many of these kids are lacking.
With the help of my friend Che'keita Jones, founder of Kicks4Kids, the first group of shoe recipients will be teenage boys at the Methodist Children's Home in Redford, Michigan. My goal is to start by donating two quality pairs of new shoes to each of the residents living in the home during the 2016 Holiday Season. It is estimated that at that time there will be between 40 and 60 boys living in this shelter. Prior to making my shoe donation, we will acquire each of the boys' correct shoe sizes to make sure that they receive shoes that are a proper fit. I will be working with Che'keita during November and December to coordinate the shoe acquisition and delivery in hopes of making a meaningful contribution during the holiday season.
Following my first donation to the boys Methodist Home in Redford, I plan to continue my efforts of donating new shoes to other groups of kids in need.
My plan is to donate a portion of the money I receive as gifts for my Bar Mitzvah to this important cause. Please help me accomplish my goal by making a donation today. No matter how big or small, every dollar counts! Thank you for your generosity!
