THE STORY:

January 30th, 2013 we lost my Dad to his very brief battle with kidney cancer.  It has been hard for me to gather my thoughts to put on this page because I cannot believe a year has gone by without him.  I think about him everyday and I miss him more than I could ever put into words.  There have been so many times this past year I have wanted his advice or picked up the phone to call him about something I knew he would be proud of me for and was left feeling alone.  I know he is still with me and it comes through in subtle ways.  When I think about my Dad, I don't think about him being a cancer patient because he never really was.  He had cancer and a very brief battle that eventually took his life, but during that time, before that time and even through this past year he showed so many of us how to live through his infectious positive attitude.  My dad was a burst of life. His postivie engery and beautiful outlook on life, people, religion and nature was contagious.  After this year, we realize just how much his smile and love of life captivated people.  Our family cherishes the wonderful stories that keep his name and spirit alive.  As I said last year the cancer may have taken him physically, but it never did take him mentally, I don't think there is anything that would have taken Bill O'Donnell's positive attitude away from him.  Which brings me to why I chose to run to for the Joe Andruzzi Foundation again this year.  The Joe Andruzzi Foundation's motto is "UpBeat Cancer", they take a positive approach to this terrible disease.  Anyone who has watched someone suffer through cancer knows how hard it is to be "UpBeat" during cancer, and they also know how important it is to stay positive.  Please help me raise money for this amazing charity.  Running for the Joe Andruzzi Foundation last year helped me get through the difficulty of returning to Boston after losing my Father, while the majority of my family was in Chicago.

Last year I set out to complete the Boston Marathon and raise money for a good cause.  I was able to raise an incredible amount of money for the Joe Andruzzi Foundation, but unfortunately I was unable to finish due to the senseless and tragic end to the Marathon.  This year I have the same goal to finish the Boston Marathon and raise money for an amazing charity.  My Dad would want me to finish what I started and I intend to.  I will always miss my Dad and I know he doesn't want me dwell on his death. He would want me to celebrate his life, even in small ways. Everytime I picture him, he is smiling and that makes me smile.  Even though my Dad's life was cut short, I am blessed I had him for as long as I did. He has instilled strong values within me and I am proud to carry those values throughout my life.
