BENEFITING: JOE ANDRUZZI FOUNDATION
ORGANIZER: JOE ANDRUZZI FOUNDATION
EVENT: Boston Marathon 2014
EVENT DATE: Apr 21, 2014
I am absolutely thrilled to be part of the 2014 Joe Andruzzi Foundation (JAF) Boston Marathon Team and the opportunity to help through fundraising efforts.. JAF is an organization that provides help, hope, and a reason to smile for cancer patients and their families by contributing financial and emotional support when it is needed most.
The Joe Andruzzi Foundation is meaningful to me for many reasons. Joe and Jen Andruzzi live in Mansfield and our children have been involved in activities together over the years. They have proven to be wonderful members of our community and are known for giving back, particularly supporting those impacted by cancer.
Several years ago, my brothers nephew battled cancer and won. He is a big football fan so as his remission party neared, I reached out to the Andruzzi’s asking if Joe would be willing to make an appearance. Without hesitation, arrangements were made for Joe and his oldest son to make a surprise appearance. As a 10 year old boy, their visit, along with Joe’s super bowl rings, created a memory that will last a lifetime.
The day of last years’ Boston Marathon is one I will never forget. It started with uncontained excitement to be running the Marathon, the weather was perfect and the crowds were incredible. I remember my happiness as I crossed the finish line to the cheers of my husband, children, family and close friends. I remember my tears of joy (literally) as I received my medal and headed to the family meeting area. I remember meeting my family who had left the VIP bleachers just after I crossed the finish line, just 18 minutes before the first bombing.
As a supporter of the Joe Andruzzi Foundation already, my family and I had tickets to attend a JAF fundraiser at Forum on Boylston Street after completing the marathon. Needless to say, we never made it to the event. Several of our friends were already at the fundraiser at the time of the second bombing and witnessed the horror unfold in front of them.
As I write this today, I’m feeling very, very blessed that my family was safe, but the impact of the days events left me with a sense of determination to remain Boston Strong and support a meaningful cause.
Please help me reach my goal of raising $10,000 for JAF. This is a huge goal for me, any and all support is greatly appreciated. No amount is too small.
