Kiplangat "Kip" Tisia is chasing down his dreams.
The professional runner who has been king of Rochester's roads for the last three years, continues to take the necessary steps to attain them. His five-year plan includes qualifying to race the marathon in the 2020 Olympics as an American citizen.
"Dreams are about visualizing and going after those goals in life," he said mid-workout at the University of Rochester track earlier this week. Put the work in, visualize it and make it happen, he said.
Tisia, 26, was born and raised in Kenya's Rift Valley, where his family still lives. The third of seven children born to a single mother, Tisia came to the United States in 2009 on an athletic scholarship to run at Youngstown State University, and later at Kent State, in Ohio.
Three years later, an injured Tisia left school and moved to Rochester to live with longtime friends who also hail from the Kenyan village of Koiybey.
