New York child welfare reform advocate and former foster child Jamel Robinson founded the JRCWRI in October of 2008 at age 21.
AFTER SPENDING 21 YEARS OF HIS OWN LIFE IN THE NEW YORK CITY FOSTER CARE SYSTEM WITHOUT BEING ADOPTED, IT HAS BECOME HIS LIFE'S WORK AND UNDYING COMMITMENT TO ENSURE THAT NO OTHER CHILD HAS TO EXPERIENCE THE CHALLENGES HE HAD TO OVERCOME DUE TO THE LACK OF A STABLE, LOVING, AND NURTURING ADOPTIVE FAMILY.
The Jamel Robinson Child Welfare Reform Initiative is an organization that works tirelessly to give youth in foster care a voice and hope. Through advocacy support, preparation for transition and outreach we work diligently to accomplish this mission. It is our continued commitment to advocate for at-risk youth at a pivotal time in their lives as they negotiate the trials of life, matriculate into adulthood and prepare for their transition from the New York City foster care system.
