BENEFITING: ELMHURST COLLEGE
Meet the Fulkerson Family : Jeff Fulkerson works in the tech department at Elmhurst college, and has a wife named Stacy. Jeff and Stacy have a son named James. James Fulkerson was born full-term on August 29th, 2009 via emergency C-section due to distress. Shortly after he was born, the doctors informed his parents, Jeff and Stacy, that he suffered a stroke during the pregnancy. Because of the stroke, James has no suck/swallow reflexes & he has a g-tube to eat. He has to get suctioned repeatedly throughout the day to prevent aspiration on his secretions. James was diagnosed with Infantile Spasms, a catastrophic form of Epilepsy, when he was 5 months old. Shortly after he turned 1 he was diagnosed with Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy, which means all 4 limbs are affected. He still cannot hold his head up, sit, stand, walk, talk, or eat by mouth. He is always hooked up to a portable pulse oximeter that monitors his oxygen levels and heart rate. James' brain is constantly seizing, having 100+ seizures a day. He will always need someone with him 24/7, but the family does not qualify for home nursing assistance, so his mom (aka Super Mom) gave up her teaching career to be his full time nurse, caregiver, chauffeur, advocate, and best friend. Please show your support by helping us fundraise to help with the medical expenses.
