My motivation for this race is all about the Navy SEALS and specifically Petty Officer 1st Class Nick Checque, a member of SEAL Team Six who gave his life; the ultimate sacrifice in the succesful rescue of an american held captive overseas. Nick was the ultimate warrior, dedicated to his family and never warivering in the face of danger. I was drawn to his selfless act of heroism by the opportunity to hear Medal of Honor recipeint Ed Byers Senior Chief Special Warfare Operator describe the actions taken that day in December 2012. The discipline and training that is necessary to become a SEAL must be focused on the end result, not the roadblocks along the way and that is the same vision for an Iron Man race- 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run- keeping your eye on the finish, preparing both physically and mentally and then executing for success. In a very small way compared to what Nick did I will garner my strength from his actions and that of his fellow SEALS while i work my race on Sunday July 24th, please support me and the Navy SEAL Foundation.
