Every day, there is an average of 117 suicides. That's over 40,000 self-inflicted deaths every year. Those are all preventable deaths. Even with all the resources out there, from professional help to the Suicide Prevention Hotline, suicide remains the 10th most common form of death in the United States. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is the only nonprofit exlusively dedicated to understanding suicide and preventing suicide, as well as supporting and helping those who have been affected by a suicide. All of the money raised goes directly to the foundation; nothing will go to me or any profitable organization.
I ran my first Tough Mudder in Austin earlier this year. While difficult and strenuous, it made me realize I was blessed to have the physical and mental health the train and complete an event of this caliber. Not everyone is so lucky. I chose the AFSP because, like many other people today, I've seen the effects of depression and suicide on those afflicted and those close to the victim. Family and survivors are left asking what they could have done to help prevent such a senseless death, and the AFSP wants to help answer that question and prevent it altogether.
I'm running the Tough Mudder in Dallas, TX in October 2016 to help raise money and awareness for the AFSP. I'm committing to running ten grueling miles through thick mud and obstacles, and I'm asking for your pledge to support me and help out this noble cause. Your contribution could help save the life of someone crying for help.
