Friends of the Children is a fantastic organization that has been supporting New York City communities since 2001. We have expanded the program from employing three Friends serving 24 Achievers in Harlem to employing nineteen Friends serving over 150 Achievers in Harlem and the South Bronx. Having grown six fold since we began, our vision is to have a Friends Place in all five of our city’s boroughs serving almost 1,000 children.
Friends of the Children New York creates "Generational Change, One Child at a Time." We envision a world where the cycle of poverty and disadvantage are broken and children are able to create a better future for themselves, their families, and their communities. To realize this vision, we identify children facing the hardest challenges and relentlessly dedicate our resources to those children for their entire childhoods. Each child is paired with a professional, salaried "Friend" who provides consistent, quality one-on-one time each week. We make a 12-year commitment to each child so that they can graduate high school having avoided teen parenthood and juvenile delinquency.
The fifth annual Bowl-A-Thon, presented by Friends NY and their Young Professionals Board, will take place on Saturday, November 21, 2015 from 2:30 to 5pm at Bowlmor Chelsea Piers. Join us for an afternoon of bowling in support of generational change, one child at a time.
