THE STORY:

James Graham is a friend of mine. And, by friend, I mean that when I have needed a friend, James has been the one to put aside his needs and dig deep to help, knowing he would get nothing but a sore body for his efforts. Why? Because that's the kind of person he is. James is a deeply thoughtful, giving caring person. He lives life deeply, creatively and dares to dream.

It is this creative spirit and courage that drove him to start an endeavor designing and building artistic furniture. He has been putting his workshop together for several months now. The number of irons he has in the fire has been growing and we were about to see some fruits from his labors.

But on the night before Halloween last Thursday morning, his workshop was inundated as the waters of Onion Creek near Austin, TX rose. It may be called a 500 year flood. But to James, it was his personal Tsunami. He has lost nearly everything he has been working for. He is devastated.

Yet, in the days since the flood as we have been cleaning, sorting and digging out, it is clear that James has not let his dream die. He is fighting and feverishly working to put his workshop and his dreams back together.

As with many upstarts, his business was in a fragile state anyway. While this catastrophe might have served to show that he is steadfast in his resolve to make this work, it has set him far back financially.

While we may be able to wash and blow the dirt out of his tools to some degree, they have been compromised. There is rust on everything metal, his stock of wood is soaked, and there is a coat of silt on every external and internal surface.

The situation might seem impossible. James has no benefactor in his family. But this is not new to him. He has risen from poverty before. He has the ability to see value in what many would discard. He has the ability to see beauty and to help us see it, too. He will stretch and multiply every asset he can in amazing ways.
James will succeed.
But he needs our help.
