All- As you know, thanks to …
As you know, thanks to your generosity and support I was able to successfully complete the Boston marathon in 2015 and raise over $11,000 for Mass Eye and Ear. I am not sure which accomplishment I am more proud of, but I know I could not have done either without all of you.
This year, I am running again for Mass Eye and Ear because this year is a special year for me. As many of you know...this year marked the end of an era. A couple of months ago, my dad had his "dead" eye removed and a prosthetic eye made in his quest to become the bionic man. This officially ended his battle with cancer.

When doctors found that the cause of his headaches and dry eye was that his eye tissue was dying, there was no question of what doctor and what hospital would perform the procedure to remove his eye, and that is Dr. Gragoudas at Mass Eye and Ear. The eye removal surgery went very well, and my dad was provided with the same exceptional care for a night at the hospital. I could not be more thankful for that.

I am running the Boston Marathon one more time (last one- I promise!), hoping for better weather and shorter port-o-potty lines, to raise money for Mass Eye and Ear so that more patients are able to receive the exceptional care my dad has received at this wonderful institution. My goal for 2016 is to raise $16,000. I know this goal is lofty, but I also know it is attainable. This money will fund ground breaking research done at Mass Eye and Ear so that people with a diagnosis like my dad's are able to receive life-saving treatments, even if they are still in the clinical trial stage.

I mean it when I say that every dollar counts. If you are unable to donate I would appreciate it if you could share this link, as the power of social media never ceases to amaze. Needless to say, pirate-themed parties were a regular event in the Coon house this year.

All joking aside, thank you, from the bottom of my heart. And a VERY special HUGE thank you to everyone who has already made a donation to my 2016 fundraiser, your generosity means the world to me.

Hi Everyone- I am proud to …
Hi Everyone-

I am proud to say that I officially finished the 119th Boston Marathon. I am even more proud to say that to date I have raised $11,220 for ocular melanoma research at Mass Eye and Ear. Neither one would be possible without your support.

As many of you know the weather on Marathon Monday was less than ideal and my time goal went out the window quickly. There were strong headwinds (which I didn't think actually mattered until mile 19 when I realized that they do), combined with pouring rain at some points and low temperatures. There were points throughout the race where I was so cold and drenched I thought about jumping the barricade and calling an Uber to take me home (by points I mean more than twice). Then I remembered why I am doing all of this...why I trained throughout the snowiest winter in Boston to date, why I ran at 8pm some Friday nights, and why I spent all of my spare money on things like YakTrax and a gator to run in. I have done all of this so that people like my dad have a chance at a great healthy life, so that Mass Eye and Ear doctors have to money to do research to save patients like my dad, and so the hospital has enough money to continue providing exceptional patient care.

I could not have done any of this without your support, and for that I could never thank you enough. No matter how small or large the donation, you have all made this possible. I hope to see all of you for a celebratory beer soon (once I am able to walk again)!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
