Jamez Gilbeaux Foundation for Benicia & Vallejo Teens
Organized by: James Gilbeaux II
EVENT DATE Jun 24, 2016
The Jamez Gilbeaux Foundation for Benicia & Vallejo Teens was started by James M. Gilbeaux on March 24th, 2016 I, Jamez Gilbeaux, reside in Benicia. What I've learned since I moved here in 2010 is that the only thing this city lacks is more positive things for young teens & preteens to get into. Leaving a higher chance for them to get into drugs, alcohol, & crime. I started throwing parties promoting that kids don't smoke or drink and that we would be able to have a great time without any of those things. I invited parents to come inside and meet me & my parents so they would know that their kids are safe & extra details to establish a further connection and support from the community. Earlier this year a good friend of mine Curtiss Halk passed away, on March 4th a month after his 21st birthday.. It breaks my heart to know that I could have prevented this by being more involved in the community. Bringing forth the idea of this foundation, to be used as a FOUNDATION, for teachers, students, & parents that will fund & create positive & fun programs, teen centers, rehabilitation programs, & counseling for our youth. I wanted to do this all alone for the community until I learned that, as a community we can make a huge change in Benicia & Vallejo. Please show your support as & help push these issues out of our city. We need this light. Here is a list of my ideas & solutions.:
Kids who have a passion for art should be able to confidently apply to prestigious art schools without loans but with grants & scholarships. Behind in credits & need extra classes / projects to graduate on time? A list of credited courses outside of school will be here, if they cost we will cover it. Walk that stage
Teachers.. the MOST IMPORTANT peeps, don't get payed enought.. why should they buy things.. just to teach our kids?! Every school should have a surplus for scantrons, paper, educational movies etc. $$
Financial Aid takes sooo long to kick in for most students so your behind by the time you get your books because you couldn't afford them.. a scholarship check ready to be cashed the day you graduate will be presented for students with qualifying grades.
Drugs in Benicia are a huge problem. Everyone knows it but the only thing done is punishing kids for doing it instead of giving them something fun to do that doesn't involve doing hard drugs &/or selling them.
We have so many non profits in benicia but for some reason the programs for these non profits are like 150 per art class. we can be using these programs for kids to get more credits and learn from professionals in their pursuit of art careers.
We put a lot of money into senior centers/events and older residents in general.. Why? Because nobody fights for the youth & that leads to drugs, drop-outs, too much free time for kids to get in trouble. We as a community can raise our youth better by supporting schools and free, fun programs for teens after school.
Art programs shouldn't be cut because that is most kids outlets from everything besides P.E. which we don't have enough PREMIUM quality equipment to fully enjoy anyway. So let's put our funding back towards art programs and getting all the sports equipment. INCLUDING Liberty high uniforms for softball, basketball, etc.
